Muslim-American Ilhan Omar wins re-election against pro-”Israel” Republican

Democratic representative Ilhan Omar cruised to her fourth victory in Minnesota’s 5th district, defeating Republican Dalia Al-Aqidi – according to projections from Decision Desk HQ.

Her opponent, Al-Aqidi, is a pro-”Israel” Muslim immigrant from Iraq, and has claimed previously that Omar turned the district into a breeding ground for “Jew hatred”.

The pair have regularly clashed on on the topics of Gaza war, and especially at the time of the pro-Palestinian protests on university campuses in the United States.

Omar’s district is primarily liberal and a democratic stronghold where Biden beat Trump by 63 points in 2020.

She’s a member of “The Squad” – a group of progressive liberals in the congress, who tangle with other members over the topic of “Israel”-Palestine.
