Now that Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has secured his win to be the 47th president of the US, many are wondering: Is Joe Biden going to attend Trump's inauguration?

For context, on inauguration day, the president-elect traditionally meets with the outgoing president at the White House after attending a church service. This meeting is a symbolic gesture of unity and a key part of the peaceful transfer of power. However, on Jan. 20, 2021, the day of Biden's inauguration, Trump did not meet with Biden nor attend the ceremony. Whereas Trump's then-vice president, Mike Pence, and his wife Karen, attended the inauguration.

Trump became the first outgoing president since Andrew Johnson in 1869 to skip the inauguration of his successor.

Therefore, many have speculated on Biden's game plan for Trump's upcoming inauguration, with some assuming that Biden will return the favor and not attend.

Well, the White House put all speculations to rest.

White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre confirmed that Biden will attend the inauguration of the next US president in January, regardless of the outcome.

Jean-Pierre emphasized that Biden is committed to ensuring a peaceful transfer of power, saying, "It's about the American people."

While she did not address former President Donald Trump's decision to skip Biden's inauguration in 2021, she affirmed that attending the ceremony is a tradition followed by outgoing presidents.
