VIDEO - Mysterious virus leaves women, girls “shaking and dancing” in Uganda
A mysterious illness that leaves patients shaking uncontrollably is spreading across Uganda as doctors scramble to find out why and how.
The virus is called “Dinga Dinga”, which translates to “shaking like dancing” in Swahili, and has already affected around 300 people in the Bundibugyo district, mostly women and girls, according to the Daily Mail.
In videos circulating online, patients can be seen shaking while facing problems trying to walk out of their hospital rooms, with some also reporting feeling “paralyzed”.
Doctor Kiyita Christopher, the district health officer, told local media that the disease started to spread in areas outside of Bundibugyo district and that samples had already been sent to the country’s health ministry.
No deaths have been reported from the virus, with Christopher saying they are treating patients with antibiotics, which usually helps them recover within a week.
The disease was first reported in early 2023 and is still under investigation since.
